Hi there, Highlanders! My name is Nava Majlesi and I am a first-year at UC Riverside majoring in Public Policy. I am from the Bay Area, and I identify as a first generation Iranian-American woman. My family's past is a strongly influential force in my passion for advocacy. I am currently running to be your 2020-2021 ASUCR School of Public Policy (SPP) Senator!
I look forward to interacting with you all and addressing your concerns to ensure all the voices of SPP students are acknowledged and advocated for. Public policy students are taught day-in and day-out about the inequalities that are so severely faced by communities worldwide...and so many of our own UCR students can personally testify to these struggles. We are conditioned by society to follow the status quo and resist dissent, but through student advocacy, we can put an end to this notion at UCR. I am a firm believer in pursuing your passions with steadfast, humbled energy, so as your SPP Senator, I will aim to uncover the invaluable voices that have gone unheard for so long. We all come from such diverse walks of life, and I hope you will join me in this journey towards all-inclusive representation. Our lived experiences shape our understandings of the world, making every student's opinion irreplaceable. We are a group of students who have the power to make change confidently and consistently. My mission is to provide SPP students the tools to put that power in action. |
